Hang in there man, there's occasional gems here. Page 6 of the mini-Simmons thread has a great link to an article about their origin. There's travel advice about Cent.Mac, I've never been; but it's on my list now more than ever. Pictures of eagles. Advice about where to rent boards when you're at other breaks. How to read the forecast. Why friends don't let friends use soft racks. Making sure to check the bolts on your Carver racks, mine started loosening up today, need to pull out the old Allen wrench set. And, general inanities. I myself am a winer, a wino and a whiner. I'm gonna whine right now too, the surf was small I need a beer. But, I did paddle out for 2 hours and it was real clean. I had a lot of fun. For the 4th the beach was empty, it was overcast and grey. Kinda chilly, had to wear a 2mm shirt. Caught a lot of little waves. Saw something a little creepy too. Real delta lookin' dorsal fin with a black tip and a cut in at its base, 'bout 10" tall popped out of the water not 20yds away from where I sat. Happened about half way through my session. Probably a dolphin, but I dunno. Didn't quite look too dol-finny to me for some reason.
Winning, not quite like whining ; )

Another whiner complaining about whiners.... starting another stellar thread while complaining about the lack of quality threads.
That is some funny sh!t.

I don't like surfers who are better than me shooting me dirty looks even when we're not in the same lineup, I don't like West Coast people telling me how sh!tty the waves are in South Carolina, and I don't like it when friends text me pictures of good surf while I have to work, although there was this one time when I got the text and immediately dismissed class yelling at them as I ran out of the room, "Swell's firing. If you surf, get your ass out there". Here's the thing, though: I rarely get shot dirty looks, and when I do I just smile and wave (I usually get a nonthreatening acknowledgement). I've found that hardcore West Coasters see us for what we are--people trying to suck the life out of whatever surf we get, and it's not my friends who I dislike, but the uncaring dean who fails to understand the religious obligation I have to make it to the water while there is still time.
That said, I will absolutely whine about overweight hopeless housewife tourists lecturing me about being more careful when get when I get within 10 feet of their equally overweight progeny as they stand in my line staring in wide eyed, slack jawed mental dormancy.
People say and write stupid shyte all the time, I get it, it's what we do because we're human. Whining about what others have to say seems about as worthwhile as weighing your bag of Doritos just to make sure you really did get 16oz., so I won't meet you out at your break to surf. it's likely that you have some redeeming qualities, you just come off as being kind of a ****.

Well said- I have been surfing since the late 60's & the reason is not just surfing. Remember the coach screaming at you to run laps? I guess it builds charachter, but I would rather be in the water. From the day I started, I liked the people that surfed, the places they hung out & their stories.
I guess the cure for all of this would be waves.

There is good and bad to every forum, this one i thought would be above the trolling BS you find on most sites, but then i realized it's the interweb, it comes with the territory. A couple of quotes came to mind...
"It's the sour and the sweet. And I know sour, which allows me to appreciate the sweet."
"The sweet is never as sweet without the sour, and I know the sour"
thats what happens when i go on vacation for a week
