    Where to surf in VA Beach

    Never surfed in VA Beach before.
    Not looking for anyones 'secret spots'
    just looking to get info on the beach rules down there.
    I've heard leashes are a must....

    What about designated surf beaches? are the beaches open to surfing til 10am?

    We're going to stop in VA beach on our way down the Buxton. Figured to get some surf in while we kill some time.

    I wouldn't waste my time trying to surf VA beach if I'm on my way to Buxton...

    to be honest there are no secret spots of va beach. You may be able to find a random sandbar on the north side, the dreded 1st st, and throughout the croatan area are ths surf areas. I heard they are really strict with leashes down here and the life guards call the vb pd to come cite you. we might get a good bump with this medium period swell coming next weekend.

    yeah, second headrow on this one. Don't stop in Vb, if you need a pit stop make it an extra hour and check out nags head on the way down. They have waves and much more open space. Buxton is what's up this time of year especially. it can be knee high in VB and chest high at the lighthouse 3 hours south.

    Just saying..There are some good spots in Virginia Beach just gotta know where it is. Was surfing yesterday when it was suppose to be 0-1ft , and I had a lot of 2footers and occasionally a 3-4ft wave would come. These aren't huge, but really fun. Just gotta find the spot!

    Ditto! Especially if you catch it as close to low tide as possible. Those two to three footers will break on a number of bars up and down the north end, as well as around the Cavalier from 39th to 45th Streets. Even this morning when it was supposed to be "flat" I caught some two footers on my longboard and had a few decent little rides. Any day riding a wave is better than not riding a wave!

    Croatan is not a secret spot so I'll say something about it... On a small day, when the tide starts to fill in for about 30 minutes, the poles/fence area will have a nice little wedge that you can get good rides on. When the tide gets too high it'll eventually get too mushy. But if you wrap up your session during those last 30 minutes on that wedge youll be driving home so stoked
