    Rincon At Christmas

We are going to Rincon this Christmas week and I was looking for recommendations on where to stay. We are novice to intermediate surfers (and plan on taking a lessson or two while there) and traveling with teenagers. Should I be looking at places on Sandy Beach or around the point in Rincon proper or somewhere else? Thanks.

Rincon is awesome! We went there for spring break, Sandy Beach is a great place for everyone. Typically a smaller break then Domes or Marias, but those spots are both only a 5 minute car ride from Sandy Beach

lazy parrot follow them on facebook they do give-aways of free stays all the time. My girlfriend won us a free 5 night stay we only had to pay for airfare and car. Another good option is Casa Verde, it's really close to the surf at pools. Also I forget the name but there is a hotel right on the break at parking lots (another sand bottom break). Sandy's can be sweet on a good swell as well as parking lots and antonio's. Pools reef was my favorite spot on that side of the point it isn't too shallow but it creates the most beautiful clear blue lefts you have ever seen on like a 3-6ft day. Much bigger and it gets a little sketchy there and the beachies are all closed out and the real rippers show up. Grab a mojito and enjoy the show at tres palmas. Watch out for the rocks!!

Christmas time is a good time to go for the weather and waves. The only downside is all the PR kids are out of school as well so the line ups will be more crowded and some of them are hotheads. We had one issue at Jobos with a local and a buddy of mine who made an honest mistake but then followed up by running his mouth. It almost got nasty. That being said, Jobos was awesome the whole day up to that point and everywhere else the locals and the tourists (Gringos) were extremely polite.

The good spots aren't secrets and PR is shaped in a way that there is always some action somewhere and if it's too much in one spot you can drive about 30-45 minutes to a more sheltered break.

honestly it doesn't matter if you stay in the puntas area of rincon (sandy beach, antonios, parking lots, etc.) or right in the town. all of the breaks are within no more than a 5 minute drive of each other and you'll most likely end up driving to marias and domes anyway. as far as the locals go, when it gets crowded like around christmas they can get ticked off pretty easily so just show good etiquette and you'll have no problem. they won't start **** with you if you don't start it with them.
