Bamboo fins are surfable pieces of art. I put them on the same line as RFC's "stained glass" fins - surfable, yet fragile. It is very easy to ding/crack bamboo fins. In a few sessions, my bamboo fin was cracking and RFC was not too helpful: "wear and tear, man." We put a lot of pressure on our fins and the bamboo fin design does hold up like our traditional fins. Personally, if I could do it over again, I would use my bamboo fin on rare occasions or I would hang it on a wall.
On a side note - my friend bought his bamboo fin, shortly after he saw mine. A week or two later, he hit the sandbar and the fin "dinged." Imagine a car hitting a streetlight- that kind of ding. Again, bamboo fins are beautiful, light weight and the chicks dig them; but at the same time, they are super fragile.
Take my advice or leave it - don't destroy it.
