If you are looking for something like a beater board that is a little bit bigger and better i would highly suggest Congo Bodyboards. I sell them at the shop i work at and they are definitely high quality. He makes a 54 and a 56 which feature three graphite stringers so they are more durable than the beaters. The boards are handmade over in California and the guy that owns the company is super nice. Might be worth checking into them if that is something you are looking for. www.congoboards.com
Yeah I'm a beginner/k00k. I may invest in something larger later in the off-season, but for right now I'd like to bypass the surf beaches and stay out of the way.
The OCMD blackball rule says 54 or less, but a local company Willey, has a 58 that he says should pass by the lifeguards: http://www.willeysurfboards.com/answer.html

Abbey.....try a Beater by Catch Surf.....get the finless 54.....I think you will be surprised.
On the site they say 175 or less, that's why I haven't picked one up. I also haven't seen anybody real big on one. Know anyone who has had an experience w/ one that's around 250?
I recently bought a Congo 54" for my brother who is easily 250. He had a blast on it when they visited last month. I'd let it go for $100 if you are interested. I am in the OC, MD.
