The wife and I dropped our two year old off at her parents on Friday and she asked me what I wanted to do Saturday. I said I wanted to go to a couple surf shops, maybe pick up a pair of board shorts. First on the list was Austin's surfshop. I'd only ever just driven by there and have been wanting to check it out for a while. So we go in and I'm a pinch disappointed because he didn't have any board shorts, just Austin shirts, but oh my...what beautiful boards he had.
After talking with him, his Dad, and a guy named Jet for a while my wife says, "Which one do you want?" I looked at her a little surprised but didn't pay the comment much mind and kept talking with the guys at the shop. A couple minutes later I look at her and can tell she's starting to get a little bored. Then she drops the bomb, "Are you gonna get one or what?" To which I responded, "Are you serious?" She just kind of shrugged her shoulders and looked at me. I didn't really know what to do...was this a trap? She can be sneaky like that so my guard was up. I suggested lunch and we could discuss it further there.
A crab cake sandwich later we were headed back to the shop. Still unsure of what I was going to do or which board to get I talked with the guys for a couple more minutes. Then I said to myself, "This may cost me be but I'm pretty sure it'll be worth it" so I pulled the trigger on a 9'6" Soul Glide.
I've been riding an 8' Nolte fun shape since I started surfing last summer and I like it but something about longboards has been wispering to me for a decade or more. Well, now I finally have one and the surf is supposed to be filling in a bit today...Life is good.
By the way, Austin and his crew are a great bunch and the boards are flippin' top notch. Stop in if you get the chance.
Clint
