Anyone heard about this? Sorry to say but your break is screwed.
it happens once a year in N.J. Usually... Its never good bc it usually eliminates the sand bars. Usually it takes 3 good storm's to put it back in place but if its more stable there it may take longer. Barrier islands are supposed to shift so we're in a more volatile environment.
I'm bumping this. CB is re-nourished every other year or so. It will seem like it is high tide - all the time. After a few storms, you should be back to normal. Be happy that this is happening now, as the better waves are yet to come. Also, be happy that you beach is cared for by higher powers.Originally Posted by elementdtlop

Who the hell cares about 90th anyway? when the city appointed those beaches surfing only beaches they in effect destroyed the break. Its kook central with every hipster idiot from brooklyn and queens and manhattan trying their hand at surfing. That break has been destroyed for years already.

I don't know how it is up north, but the south takes a yearly beating from hurricanes every year. Right now, the homes on CB's Northend are in trouble - their ocean walkways go right into the ocean. If it wasn't for beach re-nourishment programs, the damage would be over whelming. Homes would be lost, streets would be flooded, not to mention the sewer system and power supply would be in danger. I am glad that the big wigs take our coastline into consideration when divvying out tax dollars. Down south, we love the OBX; if it was not for re-nourishment programs, there would be no OBX left. In the end, I would rather have the "govt controlling <our> beach" than have no beach at all.
I like it how it is now. South of the pier at high tide on a decent swell jumping into the water from halfway up the steps and riding the backwash into the lineup reminds me of surfing at South Point in the 'Dos. Well, that part anyway.... everything else about it is different.
So you want all those people that are there to come to YOUR break after the replenishment project completely destroys the wave action there? Less places that break = Bigger crowds.
You can do replenishment projects without destroying the break and turning it into a shore pound.
