    Ocean City?

I know that there's a big surf culture down in Ocean City, NJ but it always seems like conditions are way better up north around monmouth etc. I'm from RI been here for 2 years and am just wondering why there's such a big scene down there if it seems like conditions are usually more favorable up north. Thanks.

OC gets good surf. A lot of guys from this area dont bother with North Jerz because it is a very different wave. Northern breaks break more shallow than OC and that could be a major reason. Also southern Jersey breaks have a barrier island as opposed to a bluff like system. To me, LBI on south have a more natural feel than Northern Breaks.

lbi is the best place iv ever surfed.the waves break far out, they have tons of sandbars,i can only compare to east montauk.montauk outweighs all east coast spots except the outer banks.anyone know about the "doc roc" in north carolina???as far as ocean city, all i know is its a dry town, meaning no liquor.that reason alone will keep me from ever going down there.iv seen plenty surf videos from down there, but its pretty much the same all over nj.there all beach breaks, nothing to get excited about.i know of 2 spots, that have an outer sandbar like a mile out to sea where the waves are 20ft and you would need a ski to get out there with.i did it once, just paddling, and it was like being in the middle of the ocean, not cool.if you want to go to oc,give rob kelly a call,he'll take care of you

I live and surf in Monmouth county, but have family in south jerzy so i surf down there a lot. personly i like the waves down there better. south jersey has sandbars that create longer rides. in monmouth it breaks off of jetties or on the beach

unless you feel like paddling into the **** storm that the inlet is. that's probably the best right in all of NJ but the amount of people in the lineup just makes it impossible to catch waves in the summer and fall
