offshore good. onshore bad.
if a beach faces E. then the offshore wind direction is W.
Wind direction on Swellinfo is stated by the meteorological convention, stating where the wind is coming from. So, a West wind, comes from the West and blows towards the East. This allows for clean conditions as apposed to wind coming from the ocean towards the shore.
The further away from directly offshore, generally the choppier the surf is.
The lighter the winds, the glassier the conditions.
what about if it gets up to around 25 miles per hour. But still west, will it be bad?
stronger offshore tend to make wider barrels -> help hold up the wave. If the offshores get really strong, then it can be tough to paddle into the waves, becaues of the current going out.
Or when the wind gets under your board on the take off and holds you up in the lip.
Than its over the falls time!!![]()
