i recall having an injured wrist that seemed to last forever. I don't remember how it happen, it was years ago. But i do remember not being able to surf well with it. I didn't wear anything while in the water, but got an older/simple style ace bandage/brace thats made for your wrist, just to keep it strengthened/supported while out of the water. seemed to help alot. If its alot of pain- see a DR. I remember having some pain- but mostly the inability to but any pressure on it.
It was a skate thing my nephew has (i think it's called a rip stick), all you do is move back and forth and they go, only problem is they have these tiny wheels like you see under a shopping cart, they rotate 360 degrees on a swivel while rolling, never thought i'd fall trying it, as I use to skateboard pretty well back in the day (nearly sponsored), but this was completely different (as I found out). Anyways, rug went out from under me and I caught myself with the palm of my hand and got up grabbing my wrist. It was tender but I kept messing with it trying to "work it out" but it just made it worse (duh). So i've been leaving it alone and it's feeling a little better than it was, but not quite there yet.How hard did you fall? Did you trip or get wrecked on the skateboard? Reason I ask is because I too broke my scaphoid a few years amongst other bones in my wrist (got dealt on my snowboard). My surgeon gave me the low down on this little f'er. If it doesn't heal correctly you'll be sure to have arthritis pretty bad in that hand when you get older. Blood flows through it somehow or another and if it's broken, obviously blood flow is inhibited and the bone will begin to decay. Mine was in half so they put a screw through it and I haven't had a problem with it since.....catch up with me in 30 years and I may be telling you otherwise
Go to the DR, dude. Deny the cast if you really have to but I would give it the proper attention when you get back. Until then, highly doubt any brace is going to really help you out unfortunately. <Debbie Downer>
Thanks everybody, I just walked over to Sports Authority and tried those braces you may use for skating / rollerblading, it acts as a splint with a plastic piece that goes over the wrist and palm of your hand and also a small piece on top of the wrist to prevent too much movement. I was able to do a push up without pain but I was putting most of my weight on the part of my upper hand still exposed up by the knuckle area because of the plastic piece that bulges out. These seem to be ok, but the only part I don't like is that plastic guard sticking out so far, as it may ding or dent up my board upon impact. I'm going to check a couple others out, but if nothing else seems to work I may try one of those.

Just beware it can be broken and you can still do things you wouldn't think it was possible to do with a broken wrist. I could do pullups with no problem or pain but bending my wrist backwards was a no go. I taped the hell out of it and even inserted the plastic part of the old rollerblade/skateboard wrist guard in the tape job which worked pretty well. You could even add some foam to the hard edges of the plastic to protect your board.
Fast forward 4 months and I finally go to the Dr. who says while looking at the xrays "See these 2 bones here? It should be 1 bone!" oops! Had to have a piece of my hip bone screwed into my wrist. Spent one of the best summers for waves boozin on the beach watching everyone else surf.
