Does anyone know if Poverty down in cape may is breaking again? I know they did a good ole beach replenishment and screwed up the break. Just wondering if anyone had passed it lately and knew if it was breaking again.
I have surfed it's fast hollow tubes many times before the beach replenishment. I no longer live in Cape May, but I visit family in Cape May a lot and every time I checked Poverty it was nothing but beach break, barely ride-able on the better days. Perhaps it was just bad luck on the days I checked, but Queen Street, Stegers and The Cove was always better. On days when the swell was missing the southern beaches of Cape May, we use to surf Poverty, now I find a short drive to one of the breaks further north worth while.
Thanks for the input skegs, and ill stay home and play xbox for sure.... u think u own the ocean buddy? want the waves all for urself huh? must be hard standing up straight with a head that big.
I have surfed or seen it several times since the "good ol'" beach nourishment...it may not have been the same but it was decent. Plus you CAN NOT judge considering this was the worst late spring/summer stretch in years.
No, and it probably wont be until we get a S/SSE significant swell. The last couple we've gotten have been ESE/E because the storms arent making it close enough to the shore and those hardly create waves on Pov.
The best bet for short-term and long-term would be for a few canes/nor-easters this winter to
1) Suck away all the un-wanted sand and hopefully turn it back to what it used to be
2) in doing this it will probably bring big waves to other beaches which you can just drive to
For now, you can check but you should stay away. Go down to Queen, Grant, maybe even the Cove temporarily.
