This thing was bernanners:
It won best of in show for wood boards. Yeah, balsa and ebony. That's all inlays too. Not lams. No what I mean Verne, holy mother-of-pearl Batman, bernanners!
So that was crazy nonsense and took a bunch of shapers and a ton of work. Then I saw this, I kid you not, the most beautiful surfboard in the world. It was hand-shaped by Robert August from old growth balsa. Here's the bottom:
And, here's the deck:

All of the graphics were burned into the wood by Ron Croci. It's his board, as in he's had it in the water. It took him 2 1/2 years to burn all the graphix.
The prayer says:
Ina a 'ohe nalu, a laila aku i kai:
If ther eis no surf, invoke seaward
"Ku Mai! Ku Mai! Kai nalu nui mai Kahiki mai,
Arise! Arise! You great surfs of Kahiki
Alo po i pu! Ku mai ka pohuehue,
The powerful curling waves! Arise with the pohuehue,
Hu! Kai ko'o Loa."
Well up long raging surf.
I was dumbstruck. Thing was amazing. Maybe the Hawaiian surf prayer will work on the ECoast.

I saw some grom shreddin it at the reef last night. Taking off and making everything, really super clean cut backs, just really nice style and a good sense of wave awareness; in blown out, nasty 3-5' surf. I had a blast. I was walking back up the cliff and I stop to talk to one of my buddies who's out of the water right now, post ear-surgery. We're chattin it up when the kid starts walking up the trail. He's got about 4 and a half feet of broken wave storm soft top under his arm. I ask him, “what did you do, break your board?” He sure hadn’t looked like he had been surfing on a softie before, but I had been busy and about 50 yds away. He said, “No, it’s been like this.” Blown away I say, “You were riding that thing just like that the whole time you were out?!?! I saw you standing up, didn’t I?”
“Yeah”, he says just as cool as a cucumber.
Kid was surfing better than most people I know on a no finned, broken-in-half wave storm soft top.
Now that’s G.
