Last Sunday, a local surf camp had an end of the season contest. Some decent sized waves coming through, but mostly just closing out on the sandbar. These kids, including my daughters (had to throw that in there) were really charging it. They were getting worked, but kept coming back and actually got some nice rides. Was awesome to watch. They must have had some fear but kept taking off. Great to see them pushing their limits.

This evening, I saw a paddle boarder get barreled. First time I've ever seen that. Small wave, bout 4 footer, barely under the lip, totally tucked in, paddle across the knees, one knee on the board; but hey, if there's water over your head and a hollow behind you, goalazo. I see dude out there all the time, usually evening sesh, rides an 8'6" Hobie performance paddle board, rips it up. Thing weighs less than my log.

Pretty sweet, and it does happen, quite often actually around these parts. One of these days i'll catch a photo of myself being shacked, but conditions need to be there, crossing fingers!

I saw a two little kids sharing rides on a longboard a week or so ago. One would hang out on a pretty big rock thats exposed even on the high tide, and the other would catch a ride. They were hooting and hollering at each other and just trading waves, and the board. Pure stoke for those little groms. When the kid who just got the ride was paddling back out, the kid on the rock would cannon-ball off.

Last night saw a family enjoying the waves together at Sunset Beach (Gulf). The Dad would take the board out and catch some waves with his what looked to be about an 8yr old daughter, and she was catching and riding waves no problem, while the Mom was in the shore break / shallow area with what couldn't have been more than a 6 month old child and he was laying on the board riding in on little ripples having a blast. Then Mom and Dad would switch and she would catch waves while he tended to the baby playing the shore / shallow area. This is how it should be for those who have families, it's pretty cool to see, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's one of you on here either, good on you and your family if it is.

I went for a bike ride was nearly clipped by a drunk driver who crossed into my lane two days ago. It was close and sucked at the moment but after it was kind of cool because nothing happened. I was lucky.

I saw some dude texting on a lifeproof cased, iPhone this evening. It was in one of their big, orange, life jacket things too. A wave came up, he looked up, shoved the phone under his chest zipper, started paddling, caught it and did alright. I laughed my ass off. First time I seen that, prolly won't be the last. Wished I'd taken mine out, the water was as clear as could be, I was swimming around underwater between sets and just wanted to take pictures of the reef and the kelp.

Last week, I paddled out in straight glass. When I made it past the breakers, I noticed a shadow under the water. Thinking it was a shark, I laid back down on my board and prepared to head back to shore. Next thing I know, a loggerhead turtle is looking right at me. This was the first time I have ever seen a loggerhead in the wild, during a session. For those in CB, there is a loggerhead that hangs out by Harbor Masters - definitely worth checking out; although, it is a totally different experience sharing liquid with one.

you mean there's a loggerhead in the marina there?
