"It's an important time for surfing," Kieren Perrow, ASP Surfer Representative, said. "The supporters of the sport have sacrificed a lot of time and energy into professional surfing, and it has brought us to our current position where we're attractive to a larger market with the ability to take surfing to a whole new level. Everyone, from the surfers to the fans to the events to the sport, will benefit and it's an exciting time for the ASP."

translation: "we think this is how we can sell more surf stuff"

the industry has an exaggerated sense of it's own importance. if all the tours and contests and pros and merchandise went away overnight, surfing would continue tomorrow, unabated. surfing owes nobody a living.

Like tropic surfer said above, "well said." This is why riders are dropping off the tour - aka Dane. The tour is such a joke.

wait why is the tour a joke? dane dropped off for personal reasons rather than issues with "the man"
