Been wearing the 5 mm since October. I have a question. Why are these silly posts repeated over and over again. Idsmashh has over 400 posts. I'm assuming this isn't your first year. Just look at the water temps and the air temps, whether it's sunny or cloudy, wind conditions, and you should know exactly what makes you comfortable in those conditions.

You seem to harsh out out on people a lot in wetsuit threads. That's odd. Some parts of the coast dont have good buoy coverage - with over 150 posts kind of surprised you havent noticed that.

Smash - 4/3 with hood, 3 mm boots and gloves. DE/MD several sesh last week. Water feels like low-mid 50s.

Not trying to be harsh at all.

You don't need an exact temperature reading for your spot. Within a few degrees will give you a very good idea what you should be wearing.

48 to low 50s for most of mid-atlantic right now for coastal water temps. It aint warm anymore

    All the best

I don't understand how someone who says they are a surfer wouldnt know what to wear at this time of year. Mid septemeber to late October 3/2 in the begining to maybe 4/3 later in October depending on the day. Mid November to mid December good 4/3 to 5/4/3 depending on the day. After that it's 5/4/3 only until mid april unless it's a warm year like last year. Then you might be able to switch over to a lighter suit a little earlier.

Its not always the water temp thts the concern. So we judge by all the weather conditions; water, air, wind. personal comfort, as to what we wear. I use the method of everything equaling 100. water plus air plus wind factor. I'm lovng my new 4/3 hooded Xcel drylock plus booties and gloves. Sweet and warm.

In monmouth county, I wore a good 3/2 with a polypro vest under and booties on Friday with temps in low 50s. I definitely could have used gloves but was able to stay out for a few hours. I would say it's 4/3 time right now. 5/4 is way too much overkill right now this early with temps still in the 50s. If you don't have a 4/3, then I guess it's about time for a 5/4.
