I just got off the phone with someone from the county, who said Monmouth County does sampling at ocean beaches year 'round. The latest sampling was done yesterday, and the results should be available tomorrow. If they are available, they'll be posted here...

Results from one sampling site in the Wreck Pond area were all in the safe range for bacterial contamination... very, very low levels, actually... all <10 cfu/100ml (colony forming units per 100 milliliters of water). For reference, the danger zone begins at 104. This is only one of several sites sampled in Monmouth County, and the rest of the results are expected to be in the safe range as well.
