Finally making the pilgrimage to islands later this month. One thing I'm quickly learning is that this journey will be costing more than most my surf vacations. I just wanted to hear if anyone has any advice on places to stay on Oahu, obviously want to stay near the North Shore. My lady is coming and we were kind of intent upon camping but just learned that all campgrounds are closed to camping Wed and Thurs for whatever reasons. I'm not finding anything that looks reasonable for hotel rooms. 1 stars are coming up at 150! Anyways if anyone has a good lead or info it would be greatly appreciated. We're good on the big island already but looks like Oahu's gonna take some creativity not to break the bank, pm me or share some experiences...Aloha

Try craigslist, usually always someone with a room or so to rent. just watch for the usual ripoffs. We rented the downstairs apartment from the couple that owned konos cafe a few years ago, very nice location in a residential neighborhood and free breakfast! otherwise maybe you can get a cheap room at turtlebay on priceline?
