    Living and Working in Chincoteague

I just got job offers at two companies located near Chincoteague Island. I currently live in Newark DE, have a great job in the area, and do love the life I have there, but ever since I lived at the beach for a few summers as a lifeguard, I liked the idea of living in a more rural area, being able to surf before/after work, and maybe during lunch break.
To me, its a dream to be able to have a good job, making a difference in the world, AND living at the beach. If I can go to work and score waves at the same time, instead itching for the weekends, it seems like a win to me.
I'm 90% sure I'm going to take one of the jobs, but wanted some feedback on people that live in Chincoteague, or people that have made the choice to change lifestyles so they could live at the beach. Or feedback on if I should live somewhere else, and just work in Chincoteague.

I didn't know where either of those places were so after a little google mapping, I have this to say... There's nothing like living on a barrier island. It's a unique thing that not everyone gets a chance to do. That being said, you're probably not going to want to hit up any spots other than what's out your backdoor. It seems like from Newark you have a pretty good supply of places to go to within decent drive. Your still pretty close to your people back home if you go to the island too. I'd say go for it! Hopefully you're 91% sure now.

Chincoteague seems like a cool little town. Been there many times, surfed it a bunch and its a beautful area but the waves are gutless and inconsistent. i see the chinco crew surfing up in OCMD a lot...but they seem to like it down there and i dont blame them. id rather live in a cool place and have to look around a bit for surf than live in a dump.

When I am near the ocean, I am whom I am supposed to be. When I am away, I am less than the man I am supposed to be.

Be who you are supposed to be.

I live in Lewes, De. I've never been to Chincoteague, but i know there is not much around the area, so it is going to be quite a culture shock. You might want to get acquainted with the area, before making a decision. I'm guessing the job is with the NASA center down there? If its an awesome job, you have to weight out the different factors...

Yes it's with NASA. I'm an engineer and I've found there are not too many engineering jobs in the Delmarva area that are very interesting. Initially I'll be in Dagsboro at a small place my parents and I own, but it's a long commute from there and I'll probably get sick of my parents coming down every few weeks. But it will give me time to explore different places like pocomoke, Salisbury, Berlin, chinco etc before committing to a place to live full time.
If anyone is part of the "chinco crew" I'd love to talk with you and get connected to that community.
Oh also, I drive on to assateague from the Maryland side all the time, is the permit the same when you drive on from the Virginia side?

I imagine most of the people that live down there are with NASA.
I'd try to find some contacts within NASA to get a hold of.

Might be worth checking out Snow Hill, Maryland. It seems like a cool town that hasn't been taken over by retirees yet, is within an easy commute to Wallops, near decent waves at Assateague OCMD, etc.
