Between Rhode Island, Delaware, South East North Carolina and OBX this winter has been firing! Head high + and clean on average at least once a week. Not to mention the i caught some local spots in R.I. that have broken better than they have in 10 years. If your not getting pitted and stoaked this winter, you dont know where to look , or are too lazy to make a trip!

I am poor and don't own a suit thick enough to travel north. I just deal with whatever swell we see in SC.

Feb- Last two weeks had weekly swells- usually a 1.5 days long, head high or better. Offshore every time.
March- swell event each week, head high or better, offshore.
Water coldest it's been in many years. Looking forward to spring.

Best NJ assessment of the winter I've seen. Number of friends have been calling it all time...etc. But seriously...really was only an "ok" winter overall. I think a 5/10 would be fair...

Feb and March definitely made up for a crumby january IMO.

December in Nj had 2 other head high offshore days other than doomsday and 27th.

People on this thread are either pessimistic or delusional. Between Jan 31 and the the E swell this week there were 8 swell events with each producing one if not two days of surf, three days in a row on W Long Island for the 'Saturn' swell. These weren't mushy, crowded California waves either... Completely empty top to bottom barreling waves. There were also a disproportionate amount of good days on the weekend which is crucial. I'll take a flat spell in January for that... Best winter ever

Yeah, since ive opened this restaurant, I really dont have time to even get up to Charleston, much less the mid-atlantic.... Planning a long vacation next fall (LAte fall after hurricane season of course) to get outta the South East and get some damn waves. I was tempted to hit the Washout during Sandy, but it was solid 5-7 foot with some barrels down here so why bother to get slightly better surf... It was as good as it gets right here.

    5 - decent; what you'd expect
6- several runs of good surf
7 - definitely better than average
    8 - a really good season
    9 - it's been awesome!
    10 - EPIC
Based on this scale, I'd give it a 6.5
If January had even one or two more swells, a solid 7.
If January was like February, an 8.
