    Practicing Turns On Land

Do you guys know of any ways to practice turns/slashes on land or any workouts to strengthen the muscles used in explosive turns? Excluding indo boards and ripstick type boards.

Explosive turns and carves are different, so carving a skateboard won't help much. To practice explosive turns on a skateboard you need to be a good and aggresive skater that's more than willing to donate blood to your purpose. Good luck

You are right only to an extent. You can't really practice turns but what you CAN do is practice bottom turning!!! Longboarding will help your bottom turn which will increase the power in your top turns. Also, its fun and its a good way to keep your legs strong. I can't wait until the snow melts so I can bomb some hills myself.

You're right, but only half right. Longboard skate boarding will sort of help your bottom turn as will a street/ramp board and a good top turn comes from the bottom. You can't do d*ck for sharp fin blowesque turns on a longboard however, on a ramp/street board you most certainly CAN!!! Like I said, you need balls, skills and the willingness to bleed. You will never do front side/back side Ollie 180's, 360's or disaster slides on a longboard and thatís the closest you'll come to an "explosive" top turn on a skateboard. How about a nice fearless full speed power slide on an bank, riding a longboard with most of your weight on your back foot while sliding mostly the back wheels...Not happening. Furthermore, bombing hills (going full speed on a legit decline) won't do sh*t for your surfing. Ever get speed wobbles doing around 50mph, launch, fly like superman, tumble, slide, skip, spin, almost decapitate yourself on a guard rail, lose your shoes, loose everything in your pockets, shred your clothes, fracture ribs, hips, hands, vertebrae, come to a stop well over 100 feet later, and start bleeding out of every part of your body? You won't be surfing any time soon after that kind of carnage. The closest you'll come to surfing on a skateboard is on a half pipe or in a pool and you won't be riding a longboard, rip stick, or carve board.
Ps. I'm an advocate of skateboarding but it's dangerous to your health and you could severely hamper your surfing enjoyments with skateboarding injuries. I speak from experience fupafest and I aint no spring chicken. Don't be a d*ck, I'm just trying to help a brother out.

Go buy youself a nice longboard skateboard. I have had great service at www.daddiesboardshop.com You can fully customize your board (trucks, bearings, wheels, griptape, etc) for relatively the same price as an off-the-shelf board.

Once you get a ride, go find a nice bank or hill to bomb. You will find yourself carving concrete in no time.
