I have heard things like "it won't work because round rails grab water instead of releasing it". That's the level of thinking in that forum.
To me thats a good level of thinking. Its only one design aspect (and might even be a desirable design aspect depending on how you want the board to perform) but at least its criticism that's based on some functional characteristic of the board. I'm no expert on rails...is that a bad assessment? I've thought it made some sense...round rails drawing water up instead of releasing it might slow a board down and affect turns.
To me it's better level of thinking than worrying about wetsuit color, cost, lack of sales, broken boards, etc.
By the way, and I think i said it before, fantastic job on the board. I really hope you find some good waves for it.

There are some members of Swaylocks that love to trash my recent build which was inspired by Roy's work. These people make posts trashing the design but can't seem to provide any good explanation. I have heard things like "it won't work because round rails grab water instead of releasing it". That's the level of thinking in that forum.
That's all well and good, but there is no reason to bring that trash on to our forum. We have enough Roy trash without inheriting stuff from other forums.
Roy if you didn't post to this thread again I doubt it would have ever made it back up to relevance.
I think my issues are with your pricing. Granted its your call as to how much they cost but its reasonable to want to know why they cost so much.
could you give us a breakdown of what materials cost, your labor fee and your markup?
By "tapered profile" do you mean nose-to-tail "foil" or "thickness flow?" I don't know if I'd call that an industry myth. I've played with foil and changing foil does change performance characteristics. So I'd argue that the foils you see on boards today, made with foam and fiberglass, serve a purpose. Again... it's what you're after. Some surfboards DO need a certain type of foil in order to perform in a certain way, just like your boards need a certain profile to perform a certain way.
