    I been riding tim nolte boards my whole life. Just got a 6'6, 21 1/8,2 1/2 thick. Great quality boards. can surf any wave from 1 to 10 feet

    if you look at the "board selector" tab on the channel islands website, you can type in novice and your weight. It says you should ride a 5'8" Pod. Your buddy's board is 2" shorter, and not as wide. It's not a huge difference, but you'll have extra growing pains learning on that thing. And it definitely won't float you with a winter wetsuit.
