You elect an official who has a say in all this. It is called a Republic. Don't like what's going on, run for office and change it. But if paranoia works for you, don't let me get in the way of it.

Give me a break. Our bipartisan electoral system is a joke. The Republic of the past is long gone. We the people have no choice. Most of Our current politicians are bought and paid for. So if you don't agree that we have a Fasciast state you are just being argumentative, don't like to admit your wrong, or just another lemming.

And how does not agreeing with forced health care make me paranoid?

Your point is? Americans are spoiled and we have it really good here. I am sorry you do not feel that way. I do not share your feelings.

I agree Americans are spoiled and we have it good here, so most Americans ignorantly put people into power who will abuse that power, hence the boiling frog analogy. spoiled people are too egocentric. more American kids know who Ronald McDonald is than Jesus Christ. adversity makes men, decadence creates monsters.

And most Americans can tell you when Britney Spears is in detox, but they couldn't tell you the name of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

    This isn't anything new, Arch.
Steve Allen made us all laugh with his 'man on the street' interviews of Americans 50 years ago; Leno reprised it. It shows us all how provincial most of our countrymen are. They go to work, they take care of their families, they pay too much in taxes. Repeat tomorrow.

So, what's your point / beef? As if Italians or Aussies or Brits are any different. Americans are, by & large, a good people who work hard & have made a nation that surpassed anything ever seen on the human scale of endeavor. Faults? Sure. Plenty.

But before you go signing us all off to the trash heap of history, just consider that the problems & issues facing Americans are human conditions not specific to the USA. A bit of travel and experience with our planet's human societies, with eyes wide open, would be your strongest piece of evidence.

    Glass half full, amigo. Always.

First of all, I've lived abroad for years, I've seen a lot as far as the human condition in many cultures. Interestingly enough the average Aussie knows more about American politics than your average American.
My beef is most Americans watch way too much tv, and are fed garbage and lies about what's happening here. We've become a mess. America is #1 in divorce, alcohol and drug addiction, obesity, cancer, diabetes, depression, phamacutecal drug use, and child abuse to name some.
What we are not #1 in: education (we are ranked 29th out of 32 western societies).
We may have the highest income per capita, but like I said, "adversity makes men decadence creates monsters".
Pre Nazi Germany was much like our country was 100 years ago. Well I should hope you know whappened there.
So while the average American is asleep the foundation of this country is being undermined.
So I think a lot of people here should look around with an open mind. Ask questions and not just accept everything the idiot box and the talking heads tell them. Maybe then they will see what we have become.
