leashes are for kooks, especially when it's 23 ft.

LOL....Certainly told by someone that has never attempted pipeline. You do realize that all those guys that are riding that have ridden 6 foot beach break right? The tough part of pipe is not paddling out. It's the ultra heavy/hollow bomb detonating on the reef jacking up faster than anything you've seen. The wave comes out of nowhere. It's not called a proving ground for no reason.
lol,let me inform you a little bit.i can tell your definitly some kook.im not trying to sound hardcore.jamie o brien is a good friend of mine,i know mick,i know enough.iv been to hawaii 4 times over the past 8 years.didnt you ever watch busting down the door?im not trying to sound hardcore or anything, just explaining some things some dont know.remember when rabbit was talking about the first time he paddled out at pipe, you sit to the right in the channel and watch the waves.blue crush?lol u never saw any of these films.yes guys get cleaned up when they are in the lineup.there IS a clear channel on the right.to the left is off the wall.now if you have cahunas, and want to be hardcore you can paddle out at off the wall to pipe.guys like todd chesser(rip),kelly slater, the malloy bros would paddle out at off the wall, just to see who could make it.if you ever been to hawaii, youd know never to paddle out at off the wall from pipe.im just speaking on references, not my own opinions.you can hear about this in any surfer movie.go watch a movie, read a book, learn a little

I thought to the left of Pipeline was Backdoor(if viewing from the beach)...same reef just the right...never been to Hawaii though so take that with a grain of salt.

No, you got it. OTW is just the next reef West. I’ve never seen anyone paddle from OTW into the lineup at Pipeline, but I ain’t a local. I’m sure it can physically be done, but if you don’t have license to just dump yourself into the head of the lineup right there, I could see how it could cause some heated discussion.
One of the things that always blows my mind (there are a lot of ‘em) about the North Shore is how each named break is right on top of the next one. When you paddle out at Pipe you pretty much paddle out to the right of the life guard tower, I’ve always been a little fuzzy on where the one starts and the other ends, but that’s Ehukai/Pupukea. That’s the sand bar and except for some random lily pads and is pretty low risk.
On the left of the Tower is Pipeline proper. Easy to spot when it’s breaking cause the crowd just stops at one point. It’s like there is a line in the water. Go left right there and it’s Pipe, go right which only the guys who are really on the inside of the peak can make, it’s Backdoor. If you stand on the bench at Ehukai, just behind and to the left of the Tower and look out past Backdoor, that’s OTW.
If you time your paddle out, it’s not a big deal. Get caught on the inside in between sets and it’s another story.

Awesome, thanks for confirming that...obviously hope to get there and gaze upon it all with my own eyes one day, I guess they don't call it the seven mile miracle for nothing.

It's called that because it's a miracle there are so many D-bags in only 7 miles
