    Florida Vs. Jersey

Alright, since it was a good topic on another thread, lets duke it out. There are various thoughts on who out weighs who as far as consistency and quality. Florida is getting my vote.

Post pics, videos or thoughts backing up your argument.

This is only one video, but focus on the 2:00 - 3:00 minute mark in it. I would say, hands down, those waves in this Florida video are bigger, cleaner more makeable barrels than I have ever seen footage of in Jersey.

P.S. Still shots of pre-closeout standup barrels don't count. I'm trying to see guys in solid 15 foot surf getting shacked and coming OUT of the green room like the footage below.

And lets face it, Sandy was nice to Florida surfers, but every single year the same thing happens, some freak swell makes random florida spots go nuts... My argument is that Florida's atlantic coast not only has more ridable days, the sand and reefs down there can hold enormous swells that the midatlantic cant...

Its simple, if you are willing to handle the cold than Jersey is much better than FL. Ive lived in N. FL and Jersey, its not even close....Jersey wins by TKO. Great vid.

Dude, the Sandy swell in Florida was an ONCE-IN-A-CENTURY event..........

Now get this straight y'all, I am not ragging or disrespecting Florida. I dig the whole Florida scene. But when it comes to consistency Jersey has it HANDS down. Just look where all the wave producing fronts come from and eventually head off the east coast. Most lows and other systems come across the country and head offshore between North Carolina and the North East. I'm not aware of any swell producing activity, of any significance, that exists exclusively to Florida from the east or south

And these rare swells that make Florida go nuts happen VERY infrequently. The last thing that even approached Sandy was the Halloween swell of 1993(I think that's the year). 1993 - 2012 is a long time.

Yeah, New Symrna has a waist high wave or so everyday or so they say. Ok. But you can find Sebastian Inlet at any jetty down the block in New Jersey. Having a few spots like Reef Road, The Pumphouse, and Monster Hole that get good once in a while doesn't make it more consistent than New Jersey. Dude, Ocean City Maryland is more consistent than Florida.

East coast surf scribes will tell you, even video legend and Florida guy Kevin Welsh said, "Florida has the oranges but Jersey's got the juice." Jeez, I've said that like three times already. That dude made the first martketable east coast videos and kinda spent some time all over the east coast.....plus he was based in Florida. So if he's saying it......

Transworld Surf Photagrapher Legend, Seth Stafford, said concerning his college years in Florida, " Wayyyy less consistent and less heavy than New Jersey. Wasn't much different between Florida and West Chester, PA."

Wow, that last quote was shocking.

Oh if I has access to them New Jersey has pictures of waves that size too. There's pictures out there of Casino Pier 10' + and absolute sheet glass perfect. I know back in the day Manasquan Inlet could handle anything the east threw out and dudes like Tony Giordano and Kevin Casey had numerous pictures taken of them surfing 10-15' Manasuqan.

AND..........you realize that while Florida had the surf you posted above.......THAT DUDES IN MARYLAND WERE TOWING INTO THE SAME TYPE OF WAVES........THE SAME THING A DAY OR TWO LATER. So..............how does that make Florida special? Hmmmmm not so much.

I thought the rule was post videos and pics, instead of just claiming why you think one is better than the other. Where are the videos!!! At least Zach posted some.

First of all, I don't post videos or pictures or links on here. Never have, never will.

So we should make this a - "Find And Post The Best Pictures of New Jersey And Florida You Can" on here. Claiming Florida is better because of ONE swell event isn't a sound supportive argument. Neither is posting pictures from said, "Once-in-five-centuries" swell event.

Shoot, I can post pictures of Stumpy Point that makes The Great Lakes look better than the east coast. Well, go to Surfline and look at all the Photo essays they did on the East this past winter(don't look at the forecasts over there, just look at the photo essays). I'll let y'all compare and decide who's got more class.

And if you want videos go on Youtube and find them yourselves.

Florida gets my vote, cause I hate cold and crowds.
This was a windy day in March. Not the best, but fairly typical from what I have seen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2v4o56di18&sns=em

Bill, you are getting lazy on us. Anyone can write an essay claiming their state is better.
I could give you an eloquent wall of words comparing Folly Beach to J Bay, but it wouldn't really be an honest overview.
