newenglandflatness.... that's not a cyclist. sounds more like a fixie hipster commuting or looking for attention. a cyclist just wants a few feet of room on the road to average 15-25+ mph for 20-100 miles+. as I mentioned and definitely believe, it appears to be uncool, annoying, pointless, etc. but it is really fun, progressive, and excellent exercise. I weight train my upper body, and have pretty much cut out lower body weight training and replaced it with cycling about 50 miles per week in more or less what would be considered a long sprint.
No intention of disrespecting or insulting cyclists...and you're right about them mostly being hipsters with fixed gears. And don't even get me started hipsters. Like the ones who spend their entire day, on their bike or not, with the leg of their skinny jeans rolled up so everyone can see they ride a bike and are much cooler than anyone who doesn't
efficiency. I heard recently that 30% wind reduction can be achieved when in someone's slipstream (think nascar I guess lol). The reason you see them lined up more horizontally is because the wind/slipstream is not directly behind riders in the front... you have to line up in a staggered fashion depending on the direction of the wind. If the folks on ocean ave are literally side by side then they are not cyclists or strategically cycling. below is my new bike. I upgraded from steel 1987 restored Fuji to the Windsor with carbon fork/aluminum framewindsor.jpg
+1 for mtbing... DH is like surfing a good day. anyone in monmouth county there are some dope new trails put in at the back of allaire state park, alongside the parkway north downgrade. park at the entrance to the camping area not the hospital road, and wear bug spray, a lightweight 6"-7" bike is well suited if you connect it right
I hate the triatheletes who come down here twice a year to compete. For two weeks prior to the race you have to dodge them on there bikes because they seem not to care that the place they have come to has people that actually live and work there. They simply keep riding in the middle of the street until you can pazs them and then look at you as if you were crazy for wanting to get around them. Then for two weeks after here are little gatorade cups all over the place that they throw down on the ground whenever they ere done with them even though trash cans are provided at every spot. I respect what they do but I do hate them.
