    Summer trip to the Carolina's

My grandmoms wanted to take me down to the Carolina's for a week to surf, but it seems like a lot of the good spots are booked are there any spots that aren't bookd or aren't as crowded so we can spend the week there.

Who travels to the Carolinas when they are looking for a surf trip? You have a 75% chance of it being flat.

    Where should we travel then?

If you want to stay in the Southeast, Florida would probably be best. New Smyrna or Cocoa Beach maybe?

Hatteras in summer can be a blast. Go down to Avon or buxton. There r always rooms for rent and usually some kind of wave.

If you do hit the Outer Banks make sure you have a wetsuit. If you don't own one keep heading south. That is if you're planning to take this trip in the very near future.

He's a kid. His grandma is doing something pretty neat for him / with him. Some of the vets on here could chime in with some info?
(Maybe WB or CB instead of the OBX?)

Didn't realize he was a kid. In that case, any spot will probably work. I would still go for NE Florida, as there are plenty of spots and FL is usually much better than the Carolinas. OBX is fun (I enjoyed My stays there), but the water is cold. Also, finding a place to stay there during the summer can be difficult.

North Florida has a wave more often than not...http://911surfreport.com/2013/06/02/...e-surf-report/ ...scroll down to the bottom and check the last 3 weeks or so and see what I mean...not anything epic this time of year but ripable 2-3 ft peaky surf way more often than you would think possible on the east coast

OBX/nags head would be my suggestion depending on where you are coming from. More surf spots (not always hitting) but offers more variety of surf. Also plenty of fishing and lack of a "real" tourist spot like Va Beach or Myrtle.

As far as where to stay? Plenty of hotels, camp spots, and even renting a beach house. If granny is paying go beach house

Also with all spots you may end up going to planning a when is as important as a where. So choose wisely and hopefully this will be a start of a new addiction of surf traveling.
