Nah you're not an old timer in my book LB, used to hear the older Italian guys at the docks talking about them.

I disagree about them being fun to catch... Their like dead weight. The just spin in a circle as you reel them up.
I have heard they are edible, but never tried one...
If get stuck with the horn(at the base of the dorsal fin on the Spiny Dogfish) you'll be in some serious pain and it will most likely get infected.

    Hey Zeroevol,

Is that your actual hand in the photo? If it is, that's pretty exciting. You have a beautiful hand and wrist. Now I can recognize you if I see that hand again.

I hear he's a hand model for Isotoner gloves, could he be Dan Marino?

its not bad. cut the head and fins off and fillet after that. if you don't want to eat it put the fillet on the hook with the skin. Fluke attack it and you can usally use one piece a couple of times. saves you from running out of bait.

If you plan on eating a dogfish, shark or ray remember to gut it right when you catch it. Otherwise the urea and ammonia they hold in their organs will leach into the meat and spoil it.

Zeroevol: You should have bought the shark insurance on the rental hand.

Hey take your fishing discussions over to Bill Dance's website. This here is for surfin' and wetsuit questions......

You fish hooking bastards. You guys like killing things, huh?

Anyways, this is for surf related info only. Surfing and fishing ARE mutually exclusive. I know some of y'all think they are partners or something. They ain't.

I fish at McDonalds for their Filet O' Fish sandwiches, but that's not even real fish. Man, they never put enough cheese on those things. Anyways, take your pickup trucks, your cooler of Budweiser, and go stare at the ocean, you fishing clowns..........Stop setting up shop at the peak I want to decimate.

Oh good lord, will you guys stop crying, I'm just joking with y'all.

Maybe one of y'all could go crabbing for crabcakes at The Crabtrap in Somers Point, NJ.......get me a whole load of them things. I love those things.

Okay, fair enough, if this little guy bit me, would my wetsuit handle it or would i have to buy another suit? If I was surfing and this shark offered me some candy, should I trust him?

And PS, I don't drive a pickup and I hate Budweiser! I have a Pinto and I drink Old English, with the paper bag for my 22oz can. so there!

its not bass blues or albies but it beats not catching anything.
been fishing off the dock with clams at night. got a few bass but instead of dogfish coming in i've been running into big fat eels. once they come in you can't get the bait past them. so gross, but also very tasty.
