Cheaper to fly or buy?

Traveling back home to SoCal in a few days and I wanted to bring a board that's been working well for me, but someone told me it would be cheaper to buy a good used board when I got there, then sell it back to the surf shop when I leave. (Rather than pay the insane oversize bag charges)

Anybody done this before or think its a good idea?

Do the math then check out Craigslist or some of the surf shops. It will probably cost at least $200 rt to bring a board.

If you're traveling somewhere that Southwest Airlines serves, their price for a carrying boards is $50 each way. My experience on many flights Southwest flights is that the SW ticket clerks often are friendly and don't charge you the board fees. I'd say that's happened at least half the time for me and others traveling with me.

Jet Blue is charging me $50 each way to take my board to costa rica. That seems reasonable.

Jet Blue is the sh*t, they took good care of my board when I took it to PR, not a scratch on her, might have something to do with it being a Coil, but none-the-less it came back unharmed

Just avoid carriers like American, Delta, etc. that charge the insane fees ... Otherwise yeah, much cheaper to just craigslist a board and then try to flip it when you're done.
