yeah, i split my time between manhattan and eastern LI. when in manhattan, i take the 6 train to the A to far rockaway, change at broad channel for the shuttle. the looks you get in the subway are priceless overall, a little over an hour commute and the cheapest means of getting to and from the beach ($2 each way)
I always take the L and switch to the A at Broadway Junction.
I have recently moved here from Ocean City, MD. If anyone ever wants to go sometime, shoot me a PM.
Hello everyone, still looking for Manhattan surfers, especially now it's winter. I have PM'd some of you guys.

there are pylons that go out offshore but u always know where they are because they start on the beach and go strait out to sea and they are about 2 ft tall. the surf can be amazing in the rockaways, i love it there

LIRR vs. A Train
Rockaway is a decent surf spot, but there are some hazards, including the local neighborhood. I go to High School in Manhattan so I've found it faster to hop the LIRR to Long Beach. Safer spot, better waves and quicker from Manhattan. Hope that helps.
