you know the gopro does look kooky on a surfboard... I don't think its the right thing to bring out to a crowded lineup.. but I have footage from surfsessions from over 3 years ago and I really enjoy going back and looking at the footage. the early morning dawn patrol glass, hardly anyone out with me. Its a great way for someone to relive the session to some extent.
But if you think your getting super sick hindu banging while on 23 footers footage... you won't be...

Did you forget the tin foil surf hat for better reception and as a fill light? Very aerodynamic.

I'd love to get one and not even mount it, just get empty wave and barrel shots and such.

Actually for the record, the reality of the situation was that I never once regretted it. that artard learned a valuable lesson and the lineup out there was extremely orderly after that. lol.

I saw that guy out a few times after and he was playing by the rules so even though all the internet tuffies came out, it was an appropriate measure...

I got one because I rarely go out with anyone and wanted to see if there was something I was doing wrong or could be doing better. Also, I think about every session and remember a wave or a couple waves that were really fun and always wanted to go back and view a video, even if it was from the front looking right at me.

They are fun to have, but I took them out on small uncrowded days because I didn't want to look like a kook but also because I didn't want to lose it in bigger, choppier surf. I definitely saw some things I was doing wrong like not taking those extra few paddles, leaning too far back on the board, sitting too far outside, etc.

Here's the deal though at least for me, I noticed I surfed better with out it. I don't think it's a weight thing, I think it was the "on camera" thing. I would be thinking "man, it's been 10 minutes, I haven't even gone for a wave, this video is going to suck" or if I fell or missed a wave "man, I totally botched that, going to have to edit that out" so I wasn't thinking about surfing. The times I've gone without it, I'm relaxed, catch way more waves and have more fun. So I think it served its purpose, but I rarely take it out anymore.

But one more thing, I loved posting videos and sending them to my landlocked brother and friends and saying "look what I did today..."

As long as nobody gets hurt it's all good man. I don't usually have any issues with anybody out there but occasionally I do want to snap on someone for being a total D bag, you did what you had to do, and if it worked then that's all that needed to be done.
