OK, actually it's pumping there right now but the swell is supposed to be fading throughout the week.

Gabriel Medina: I will never be as good as him if I live through two lifetimes. But man, he is pretty predictable and boring....why does he opt to go straight so much? Not every wave needs to turn into an air reverse.... How but a cutback, kid? And him being an "air specialist" or whatever... it just seems when other guys land airs they look better than Medina's. If he can't find good ramps, he can't even compete...

I have respect for him and all the guys on the tour. Just critiquing from the peanut gallery. I do it when I watch football too.

i hear you. i thought he'd be one and done. i always root for the brazilians simply because they try so damn hard. it seems to mean more to them then the 'over it' too-cool-to-try americans now-a-days.

I feel the exact opposite... I do like their fire, but they are so obnoxious(in my opinion). They claim every wave and cry when they lose, even if warranted.
Kelly, Mick, Joel, Julian, Andy(RIP)... That's fire! And in a cool way. You don't have to be a douche to be passionate.

first of all,the waves at this years us open have been terrible.2nd,gabriel medina is the future of surfing, like john john.to say his surfing sucks mean u must be a total kook and have no idea what good surfing is(not u,the others on the forum that said he sucked).if u compare him to john john in terms of contests results,3 out of 4 heats against slater medina won.his rookie year at 17 he finished in the top 10 with several wins.john john has 1 win,and that's brazil.jjf is still one of the best surfers out,but competitively he isn't on board with medina.u might not see much footage of gabs surfing big waves but theres plenty of vids out there if u look.from quadruple overhead pipe to 20ft saqueremas.he lands 98% of his airs.even dane Reynolds says what u don't see in the video clips is how many times it takes to nail that big air.gabs does it flawless and hes still a grom.everyone from ke11y to bruce irons to pete mel say gabs is an animal

That last comment sounds like someone who has not watched medina surf enough. I think he's a little overrated, but his air game is pretty absurd (see: backflip, any of his ESPN real surf part for X games, etc.), dude has sick tuberiding ability (see at pipe or in comp at portugal last year when he lost to Julian at supertubos), and he's got an arsenal of turns. I totally agree he can be predictable with how much he looks to punt, but I also think you're underselling him pretty hard.
