If you recall, Kesey is the author of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest". Dude actually volunteers for the Army testing so he can wrap his mind around the good stuff!
The best part is that these aren't just acid casualties, but often brilliant people with a fascinating high-wire story to tell.

He and Robert Hunter(main lyricist for the GD) were both turned on by the govt. at a VA hospital...so one could argue that the govt. sparked the psychedelic revolution.
