While I'm in full agreement of the dangers of arms being in the wrong hands pose, I feel they're similar to pit bulls - great if you know how to respect and take care of them.
I know there are a bunch of Mil brahs in here that have their share of toys. Who else in here hunts, hits the range, or carries for other purposes? What's in your quiver and what works well for your purposes? Laws differ widely for obtaining LTC from state to state and I'm sure there are some on here that got one with the ease of a library card while others had to go through a probationary period when their background checked out fine and they had good reason to bear arms.
Let's keep this discussion in the form of sport and hobby and not get political. I'm far more in the public safety mindset and in no way a proponent of violence, so let's keep this thread enjoyable and productive rather than a sounding board for gun control, which is very necessary when legislated properly and fairly. For those of you who have major issues of belief in this domain, it's probably not the thread for you and no one adding to it will likely be out of turn with their statements if they're a sportsman.

I shot feathers...not fur...perfer shooting scatterguns. Like the Brownings o/u's...got several...410-12ga. Fall is the best time of year...upland hunting with the dog...and big uncrowed waves.
skeet, trap, sporting clays...it's all good.

Wow man never thought I'd see another trap shooter on here. I used to shoot a lot of trap w/ my Pa, he still does competitively...used to do some bird hunting too. I love shotguns, best home defense weapon. But there's something about putting 30 rounds through a semi-auto rifle that gets my juices flowing. Even though I won't shoot for fun anymore cuz ammo's too scarce.

I enjoy shooting at the range but it's been a minute for sure. Pops use to take me when he had a few of them. I learned to shoot a .22 semi, .38 revolver, 357 S&M revolver (serious gun), and a 9MM Browning, which was probably my favorite. He sold them all off one by one though, and doesn't carry anything at all I don't think.
I would love to get one myself but it's not something I feel I need at the same time. Sometimes I think so with all the crime in the area, but I've been doing just fine without one too. Wife isn't a fan of them, but she would probably think differently if we were robbed or held at gunpoint, or even worse. Protection is important, but sometimes it doesn't matter what you carry if you can't get to it fast enough. If there were someone in the movie theater that day when dude went berserker on everybody and mowed down half the families that night maybe some lives could have been saved. Maybe if someone at the Naval Yard had been packing and was quick to use it they could have saves some lives, but then again, maybe not. It's a dicey situation.

It certainly is. I personally don't feel ready to carry a concealed handgun, so I have yet to apply...but I'm all about long guns and would feel vulnerable if I didn't have something in the house. A pump action shotgun is sooo simple and could make all the difference in the world if someone's trying to get into your house. The rifle's stowed away for when the $hit gets really real.

ha, good luck not getting political. You know what? I'll go there for you. Funny how Republicans hate drugs and gays but LOVE their guns, "ain't it?", while the Dems love drugs and gays but want guns to be illegal? Why can't we just have it all? Let's have guns and drugs and be gay (I'm not, but I hope you get what I'm saying)? Why do we have to pick our liberties? We are all going to die from GMOs anyways, why not go out with a bang?

*disclaimer- I love guns, drugs, and have no beef with gays...despite my occassional use of the funny queer not funny ha ha specification. Does that make me libertarian?
