My question is,........Is it a benefit to have users be able to post local surf reports?
What I mean is,..is it good or bad, in respect to crowds and true conditions?
i know I have posted a few, at certain times, and I hope it was a benefit for everyone.
But, as of late I am started to re-think my position on that. Having seen a huge increase in the local reports,......which have increased as the water temps have, I now think that maybe user submitted surf reports may not be in the interest of those of us that call some of these places home.
Is it not bad enough that all these !@#$ ^&* )&(*^&%$ have come out of no where and can be seen up and down the beach, falling on their faces, and having six at a time share the same wave?
Given the fact that all the info that is needed to make an informed decision is right here in front of them, why should users be allowed to make it ez on anyone, ....why not make the rest of those *****es do there own guess work and make the drive and find out on their own? You know, when it is winter time it does not make nearly as much of a difference, but for summer time, I reaaly am starting to think the surf reports should a BlackOut.
Sorry, but after seeing a few complaints about crowds on other website, when I know and saw first hand that those complaining were in fact the ones out of place, it tends to piss me off, so I am Venting. As well as Venting about all of these surf reports that do nothing more then add to the summer time problems, ....(regardless that the crowds will be here whether we like it or not, simply because it is summer), but maybe we should go old school and let everyone figure it out for themselves. This website and others have provided the tools, so let them do the work themselves.
And for the ****s that complain about crowds at certain spots when in fact you face was never even seen until maybe five years ago, at those spots, all I can say it, take yourself and the rest of your sloooow friends and go back to where you came from, and that would mean not in Maryland, if you needed a Hint.
I will most likely get crap thrown at me for this post, but hey, it is all Good!
Enjoy your summer.

Thread: Surf Reports,...BlackOuts?
Its almost summer dude. Chances are unless you're respected at your break, you won't get a wave alone.
its a pretty dramatic shift from surfing with hardly anyone out all winter to the summer time crowds.
But, as far as maryland goes, the sandbars are good pretty much everywhere right now, so you should be able to find a wave to yourself if you want. You just need to do it before 9, or after 5! I looked at the north surfing beach yesterday in OC, and it was ridiculous. Maybe 35 deep in the 1 block radius... thats no good.

i'd say the swell forecasts do more to pull in crowds than the surf reports do.
A clean chest high swell forecast three days out will get everyone living within 150 miles of the coast freaked out.
By the time someone surfs, gets home, and posts a GENERAL (i.e. Ocean City, MD) surf report of chest high clean its probably too late to have much of an effect on the crowd factor for that day. People living an hour or two from the beach have probably already either come down or not.
THAT SAID, surf reporters who like to surf a particular spot, and then name it specifically in the report (i.e. 40th st, Tower Road whatever) doesn't seem too bright to me.
if you dont want to expose a spot, give a generalized area. North OC, Mid OC, or just OC!
Thanks for allowing me to vent,......I agree, your points are well taken.
i have to be honest and say that I have been guilty of the same, to which I Vented,.. but the hindsight has kicked in over the years.
I should have known better, and that is what gets me, that some that do these things should know better as well, since they have been around awhile themselves.
And yes, I could not believe the crowds that came in by 7:30am. I am up with Eyes on it before sunrise every Fri. and Sat. so I saw what happened, and man was it crazy. But In general I got no problem with crowds, for the most part, it is just that I think i/we tend to add to the problems, at least a little, maybe we should try and keep it like the Admin said and make those reports as general as possible.

I'm glad that everybody doesnt get up early, but man I was thinking who the heck gets suited up and paddles out at 9:00am when they will be chased off by 10:00. 1 hour isnt enough to wet my whistle. Saw a group of 6 surfers? paddle right up to me as if I wasnt there. Being kinda tired from the dawn patrol I got out thinking that these guys must be good only to see them go head over heels one by one on the next set. Bunch of morons.
