Thread: Wax Thread

    Wax Thread

Call me stupid or just plain lazy, but I don't seem to be smart enough to properly use the search feature of the forum. So I'm starting a surf related thread that I'm sure has been well talked about.
Up here in the northeast, water temps can change from warm to cold in a matter of days. I don't usually strip off all my old wax just because of a slight water temp change. I will usually just apply a little more or run a quick wax comb over it. However, it seems that most of the wax brands I have tried are not cutting it for me. Half way through a session I don't feel like I'm getting the grip I need. Not necessarily when standing and riding the wave, but for paddling and hand grip, the waxes I have used all seem to flatten out and lose nearly all friction with my body. It makes for some annoying board positioning under my chest from time to time. Or even the dreaded slip off/pearl, which makes me feel dumb.
I have used quite a few. I did get my hands on a bar of wax that I am told a lot of the Brazzos use, which was I believe a bar of sex wax that was super tacky. Have not been able to get any more of it. I think it needs to be ordered on line. It was almost so tacky it made my finger tips and toes hurt.
Who has some other good wax recommendations? Let the hate ensue

sounds to me like you're just using the wrong temp. grade wax (ie: using warm water wax instead of cool or cold). hard wax (like warm water) gets even harder when you put it in colder water than it's meant for, & that = more slippage than you'd normally get.

Or your finger nails, as a last resort. It also helps to grow your toe nails out a bit too…the claw!

From my own personal experience the Brazilians tend to prefer hot wax that you slop all over your privates so you can be more aesthetically pleasing during sexy time.

I agree, it is more often than not, using a wax that is meant for a different water temp. I guess the real question is, anyone have use anything that stays sticky in a wider variety of water temps. I already use a wax comb when warranted, and I do keep my toenails long.. but not on purpose. Sometimes if it gets too out of control and the woman makes me cut them, I will cut them off perfectly and leave them somewhere she will find them, like the dresser.
I have been using Jimbo's cake wax the past few sessions. Smells great, works ok

Something about sticky bumps makes it a little softer/easier to apply imo.
