Thread: El Salvador

    El Salvador

I know there are many misconceptions about Central America and it not being safe (Nicaragua and Costa Rica) but I was curious to see if anyone has ever traveled to Las Flores in El Salvador. The resort seems spot on however I am sort of "in the dark" about the traveling situations getting to and from the hotel from San Salvador. The resort has a service that seems reliable but a little pricey but that's not a problem if the ride is smooth without any distractions or hasslers. If anyone has any experiences traveling to this particular resort or anywhere else in El Salvador it would really help me out.
    Thanks

Las Flores was by far the best spot in ES when I went this summer. It's also the furthest from the airport. Drop me a PM and we can discuss your travel details.

i was there in august. las flores makes for a great surf trip. the area is generally safe, ride to/from the airport is easy and the roads are more modern and reliable than most in central america. the point at las flores is a fun ripable wave. make sure you surf punta mango.

i've been there. Stayed across the street from p. mango. Check the pic or two i put up. Those are el sal. Way worth it. If you can't get to Las Flores, go to el tunco its just a half hour or so from the airport. Theres night life and plenty waves.

Tunco is more like 45 mins from SS, still an easy ride. 50% closeouts or more when I was there and they could be harsh. Amazing rights across that whole country. Not sure what night life you caught in Tunco but it's pretty sparse. Most peeps are there to surf so they're in bed by 10pm to get up at 5am.

The ride from the airport to Las Flores was not bad. As you come over the mountain into El Cuco the road becomes rough but who cares your almost there at that point. The ride before the airport was interesting to me, paramilitary cops with road blocks and people walking the sides of the road and drying nuts on the blacktop and trying to sell them to you. I'm not a big traveler and was interested in everything along the way. We did use the Hotel pick up service to and from the airport. It wasn't a a van it was a young guy in a barely functioning Hyundai Elantra wagon. Our boards were loosely tied to the roof but thankfully the car could hardly get up to 45 mph, lol.

I went to El Salvador about two years ago April , stayed 8 days at a hotel right near Las Flores, and loved it. There are several waves in the area, and two of the nearby ones are just EPIC right pointbreaks. The kind of spinning righthanders you dream about.

If its your first time going, I would just spend the money and have the resort pick you up at the airport, and bring you back. I'm not sure what you consider "pricey" but if its in the $100 -$150 range for the R/T I would just suck it up and pay it. If its much more than that, I would question the resort because they are gouging you.

If you do it right, you're basically gonna surf world class waves, eat the healthiest food around, and sleep your face off - for a week straight. And for cheap.

I went about 5 yrs ago, not Los Flores but another spot. Head high plus for 7 days without decrease. A worthwhile trip. Can get really good. Looong right points. 3 sessions per day, eat, sleep. Don't forget to take care of staff, guides, etc. They are poor but friendly and appreciate gratuity.
