I’m graduating next spring with a BS in Chemical Engineering. The possibility of rotting in a cubical somewhere 1000 miles from the beach is starting to become too real, so I figured I’d take a shot in the dark here. Does anyone know of, or work for, a company that hires chemical engineers and is near surf?
I’m mostly looking for an internship for this summer right now. I've done the career fair/cold call/apply online routine but no one’s biting. My resume looks like a decade of ocean rescue life guarding, 4 years of collegiate surf team vice president and team captain, and some back yard shaping experience. I'm capable of doing the work and my gpa is good but I’m guessing job recruiters think I’m more of an employment risk than the kids who spent the last 5 years in the library. So any ideas or leads or job connections? Thanks for the help!
Bro. You seen how this forum's been behaving lately? And you ask for life direction? What university are you coming from, they're not helping? Depending on your grades, your bio sounds good. If that's the case, you've got better mentors than a virtual reality show starring surfers and even more non-surfers.
hey man im pretty similar to you minus the surf team haha. ive lifeguarded for about 6 years now too. bet that was fun. anyway, i am about to graduate with a BS in Earth and Environmental Sciences and have been looking for stuff close to the ocean as well. keep branching out. ask anybody and everybody you know. hell try going abroad if you have to. if you want to grad school and it sounds like you can, go for it. and if anything else fails, being a lifeguard still kicks ass
Titan Cement, General Electric, Corning, ppd ......come on down, we got room for another guy in the line up.
AAI Pharma, Osmotica, Merrion Pharmaceuticals as well down here. UNCW's burgeoning aquaculture program (not sure who they are recruiting, but they are bringing in some companies in a partnership.
Then there's always the RTP area, you'd have to hide from a Chem engineering job up there. I personally hate the Raleigh area, but maybe less than 2 hrs from the beach would be ok with you. Oh yeah, Obama recently announced NCSU is to head a $70 million public/private partnership with a bunch of tech and science companies--maybe there's something in that for you?
