We got 'em here year round. The guys I've met are good people who also surf on regular (i.e., "non-SUP") boards. But when summer comes, so does the circus.
A sign of spring here is when the City of VB resumes charging for parking at beach parking lots. That's 1 April.

The Canadians are going home and the locals resume packing the beaches on weekends. Spanish is once again more often overheard than French.

Yeah, we have to pay for parking again ... Now if only the water temps would get back to a 3/2 with no booties/gloves ...

ditto. there are a few guys who ride 'em year-round here now. they're different than the seasonal/fair weather crowd of SUPtards, though. most of the year-rounders are highly competent & know how to behave in a line-up. the SUPtards are everything we love to hate about SUPs in the line-up & more.

Double Ditto. We also have a core of highly skilled watermen who ride SUPs year round, many who also ride other craft depending on conditions. Most have over 30 years surfing experience, and I have personally learned much about lineup etiquette and surfing in general from them. Some of the "arguably" best surfers in this area have SUPs in their quiver.

That being said, SUPs can present unique problems (which have been discussed ad nauseum in other threads) if they are not handled with appropriate knowledge and skill. The angst against the "unskilled" SUPers could be applied to screwballs that ride any craft and have no sense of lineup decorum. No matter what one rides, until you understand lineup dynamics and etiquette, and can handle the craft of choosing in a crowded lineup, one is better off paddling down the beach to an uncrowded area and developing their skills. This is nothing new, but was helpful to me when I was going through my early growing pains. I was able to score more waves and not worry about contending or "dropping in", and also learned to turn, trim, and carve without having to deal with collisions.

Spring is definitely here, as the tell tale signs in nature are emerging.

But this is of little consequence if you have adequate neoprene and surf year round... although like everyone else, I prefer to trunk it.

+1 to the females wearing less
I have a goofy tan line that starts halfway up my neck and at my elbow from my spring suit
I see guys in the line up I haven't seen since the last time it was warm
The Lemon Bar is open for business and bustling!
    Yay spring!

Spring Peepers, Osprey, and a decent little run of swell.

+1 on Peepers. A distinctive sound here as well.
