DIM -- DIY surfboard rack And cold ones in Rhody

    DIM rack.jpgDIM rack parts.jpg

Saw a bunch of posts a month or so ago about surfboard racks . . . I needed horizontal storage, and I decided after looking at $700 retail pieces that I could make my own. These materials cost me about $60. Four 2x4s, two feet of 4x4, two six foot 1x4s, wood screws, lag bolts, and two inch dowels. The dowels are held in from the back with wood screws.

Is it furniture grade and decorative, no! It's ugly but it works! I was so pleased with myself, I drove down to Narragansett and caught some cold waves!

Oh Yeah -- i call it the "DIM" rack cause I Did It Myself!

Good job, it also keeps you from dinging up your equipment.

I don't think dinging his boards will be a problem, every board is in a bag.. Nice rack though build something similar with plywood..

what boards are hiding in those bags?

    Ah, the quiver --

9'2" Hobie log (shaped by midget smith)
    9' Tim Nolte HPLB
7' asymmetric fish by Rick Malwitz
7' quad retro fish by Alex Gamino
    7' Sharpeye Blowfish

    No shorties.

Try PVC pipes with 45's. Should not cost you more than $25. Need (4) lag bolts a drill and a hack saw. Foam insulation to protect your board. google pvc surf racks.

nice work man! now you just need some hooks on the side for your suits. just one question. why opt for horizontal storage when vertical storage is so much more efficient?

Thanks for the horizontal storage ideas. I hope to be getting a 9-2 to 9-6 longboard sometime this spring. I can't store such a board vertically due to height limitations in my garage

Saw some, great idea! I ended free standing, no bolting into the wall allowed.
