Puerto Rico trip help and advice

Me and my bro are from Jersey and came down to PR for a great getaway after this semester and cold. I surfed all winter back home in my 5mil surviving in 35 degree waters for head high swells. PR is deffinitely a bit different from jersey haha. Considering the only other place ive been is Salt Creek in Cali, a reef break is also pretty different. My brother doesn't surf or sponge so id be hitting those spots alone which is a hard idea to wrap my head around.
Me and my bro are staying in a nice resort away from the mainland in a hotel in Coco Beach. We went to Luquillo this morning to check it out and the surf and talk about getting hit by surprise.. a beautiful beach with a great possible break at La Pared but the area is just not that great and sketchy. Got a little hour session of about waist high waves before bailing after getting some nasty looks from people on the top of the wall.

I was wondering if anyone had any advice for a spot to possible meet some locals who dont wanna kill us on site, had some decent waves as a sand break, rock break or not too crazy of a reef? I've been looking up La Ocho because it is close to where we are, but again its a reef and paddling out alone sends chills down my spine. Even if theres any local shops i could stop by to talk to some guys would be helpful.

    Thanks guys

Let me get this straight. You paid for a ticket and hotel and are in puerto rico and NOW you decide to go on swellinfo and ask people where to surf? LOL
Bailing because you got nasty looks? F THEM! Just keep surfing. Probably should hire a guide or use google to research it(which should have been done before leaving for the trip)

I've never been to pr, but here's it really good

Good luck! Enjoy the warm water and actual waves!

In Jersey i never needed this before!/ kinda just discovered this just flopping around the site. Feel like an idiot now though haha. It was kinda a last minute "get us the **** out of here to a place where there may be surf" type plan. But the water and weather is perfect and way better than back home for sure. Making the most out of this as we can! Thanks amigo!

If this clown doesn't define 'tool' what does.

Just drink heavily & don't worry about where the waves are.

Yah, well, if it's that local Medalla crap, you have a long way to go yet.

Who goes to PR & stays logged into this 'tard website at 11pm, anyways...??

You guys should drive back to San Juan & power out in the morning. Don't mind the brown water. Sorry, sparky, it's flat here & you've got waves, so you can kiss my friggin buttockals if you are on an island renowned for incredible waves and you can't find the surf.

Where's Darwin when you really need him...?

I don't know if you have a car or not but it's definitely worth renting one and driving out to the west coast/rincon area if you can. The vibe is way different and the beaches are a million times nicer. I don't know about the waves this time of year. I think it dies down in April, but Domes is a fun little break. Good luck.

i think most of us were this clueless on our first trip to rico. i got ripped off by the first taxi i took. best advice
is to head out to the wave zone (areceibo to rincon), maybe set up at jobos and explore gently. also watch
    out for not-nice people….
