Looks to be headed for a cat 3 or 4 again from these latest images, the amazing thing is the NHC predicted the path right so far, but as for strength, there long term is beyond uncertain..

Now that Bertha is intensifying, and is gonna slow down for a few days around Bermuda, what does that mean for the surf size around topsail? or are the swell charts on the conservative side?
Stupid question, because I have never surfed a real hurricane swell. Wouldn't the winds make any swell super ****ty. Like incredibly rough and hard to ride?
Are you kidding me Eclipse??? I think you need to do a little research on how swell/waves are made. Strong winds far away = > fetch and incresed wave periods... If this system truly does slow down, how long do you think the swell will stick around Mr. mediator?? You still looking for the swell to fill in tomorrow evening into Friday AM?
Breyn, while I don't appreciate the rudeness, thanks for the info. And thanks Swellinfo for the un-hostile explanation.
Why comment on and/or try to explain something you have never experienced?
Wind = waves. The harder the wind the bigger the waves. The longer the wind has been blowing and the farther it has traveled over the ocean = bigger and longer swell period waves. Pretty simple stuff.
eclipse it wasn't a stupid question. anyone who surfs the myrtle area knows that wind is our problem getting good waves. yes long period wind driven swell is one thing, but late morning cross winds and heat created wind is very problematic. that is going to be the biggest issue for us tomorrow. there should be enough groundswell for fun waist to stomach waves, but the fact that low tide is well after sun-up means the waves will be choppy and dumpy/closing out. let's just pray it gets here then start being negative...
