So, this is a very random thought, and to my knowledge, I don't really notice anyone else doing this.... But I developed this habit in CA, where my ADHD ran wild and I had to get out to the lineup as quickly as possibly could... The lineups out there are usually a lot further out, so the method I began using, because it allows you to cut through the water faster than walking is the Skip. Thats right. The thing you learned in Kindergarten and probably haven't done since... The skip. The momentum that it gathers keeps your legs in a forward momentum at all times, and I would guess that it increase the speed from trying to walk out by about 75%....
Give it a try next time... See how much faster you get out to the lineup. I usually skip out there until it's about waist-chest deep and then start to paddle.... Gets you out there lickety split... Don't know if anyone else does this, but try it out bros.

Do you sing while you skip? Is it only one song: ie- the skipping song. or does it depend on tide?
Perhaps a training video and new avatar material:
