Thread: The Quiver

Apologies for lack of etiquette. Was just looking for some info.

So basically this app/site was made for me and I'm set for life. How do I ensure that my dirty dozen don't get all effed up by kooks? Condition may depreciate heavily on each rental.

...the million dollar question I think.

I didn't notice the "Hello" thread requirement when I signed up.

That site is a great idea. Seems legit. Like a VRBO for boards. EMass, you seriously have 12 surfboards?

They say anything more than a pressure ding will lead to a charge in the range of $1.00 - $500.00 max. If the two parties cannot agree upon a repair cost etc. the site says that they will mediate and make everyone happy....

Its a grey area, but they seem to have everything covered. The ask you to treat the boards even better than your own...

But again, I wouldn't be putting no brand spaking new board on there either....

Shoot, I can put like 10 boards on there today and be the only guy in the whole state renting boards. Don't know what the market is like for 5-10 to 6'2 potato chip west coast HPSBs but I certainly ran out of use for then. They are just wall art in my man cave collecting dust. All in almost perfect conditions.

Hello is one of the unwritten rules of Da SI Hui. Spend a bit of time here and you'll understand what the requirement is. Until then, put up a Hello tread and introduce yourself. It's a requirement...

And yes, the dirty dozen I referred to are 12 boards, not "yo mamma" jokes. It may even be 13 if I count boards I have at friends' cribs for me out in SoCal and WA so I don't have to travel with them when going out there. I've amassed a fair quiver over time simply on patient purchases of sticks that were in great to like-new shape and for a bargain basement price from someone looking to dump them for quick cash. That and getting a few on SoCal trips for dirt cheap on Craigslist out there since pennies will get you a good stick there, then bringing it back with me upon return.

I'm not even counting boards I've gifted on the El Salvs trip or the one lost in my leash break in the gnar, gnar, gnar winter swell that was not a priority to wait out the tide and soup for hours when I was just happy to have seen land again and extended my longevity. I stopped looking for boards a while back. Too many to deal with.

Sounds like an arse ache to me and GREY is exactly what it is. The time spent to just sort through all that crap to collect your $25-50 to fix the ding is worth 4x the ding repair cost. Remember, you're gonna be renting to a majority of kooks that have no idea how to treat or ride a board and many to most board dings occur arguably during the transport and handling rather than the riding. You'd need to be doling out the rentals with cases for sure.

I just checked my boards through to El Salvador and it only cost me 45 bucks so round trip that's ninety and I get two boards some airlines screw u though. I don't ever see it catching on in non first world countries because if a kid in Nicaragua has a board it's his only board and he is not going to rent it out. In te states it could catch on.

QUOTE=Dopio;236909]would be nice if it got going. always complained there wasn't really a way to try a board out before making a big investment in one. dont know willing people would be to put newer boards on there, but looks like there are some decent ones on there so maybe. also would be nice if it took off in puerto rico/central america for trips to not have pay airlines.[/QUOTE]

Yeah, there's enough rentals in most of those destinations though. How'd you get 45/way for baggage? What airline? That's cheap !
