Jersey Summer Surfing

First off, I think it's ridiculous that as soon as the summer starts surfers cant jump in the water where people are swimming. If anything, we could help people out there more then the lifegaurds in some situations(no disrepect to lifeguards).

That said, I usually hit up spring lake-sea girt area as they usually have some decent peaks and dont want to drive all the way down to seaside.

So my question is and you guys dont have to give up the spots but, in the summer where can we surf in Jersey before lifeguards leave at 5p? Does every single beach pretty much have a single beach section where we can surf?

Still blows is you ask me.....

There would be so many injuries if people surfed in swimming areas... the vast majority of people on the EC that aren't familiar with surfing have no concept of how people surf down a line.. they think surfers generally go straight in on waves, riding the wash. So they don't know how to get out of the way. Haha, it would be chaos -- slashed by skegs and dinged boards all over.

Theres alot of beaches that have surfing sections though --- they usually setup flags for about a block that is off limits to surf, then another 50 feet for a "buffer zone" then usually the jetties are open to surfers as thats where the best breaks reside.

Not the same for every town in jersey though.

Also - on big days (like we;ll have this weekend (cross your fingers) sometimes lifegaurd's will either not let swimmers in, or just forget the rules and let the surfers do their thing wherever.

Not gonna get into street names...But, You can get on at Long Branch for free with a board....Anywhere in Deal (no lifeguards)....Loch Arbor you can get on with a board too.

Good stuff, thanks. I guess I have to just cruise from Long Branch southward and maybe jot down peaks where we can surf.

Definitely understand the fact that people are swimming and can get hurt espeicially during the summer where the waves are generally mushy and small. I think the beaches are just overcrowded and thats the main problem as most beach breaks dont have much room in between jetties for a surfing and swimming section.

Regardless, if the surf is between 3-4ft....swimmers should be on there own, people or surfers shouldnt be restricted to enter the water to surf in a certain area because people want to swim. Maybe one day we have to pay a toll out in the water? jk.

Not even on the other side of the pier while guards are on duty. Just drive a little bit more south down to Island Beach State Park. You can surf anyplace where there is no life guards. I surfed stomach to chest high waves all day Monday with 3 other people out at the most. The current was a ***** but still some good waves were had. Then for over a hour I surfed alone because the guys who were out all had to get back to their shifts (life guards). It was amazing. I usually surf belmar and seaside all year round but when I want to get away from the surf crowds in summer I hit up the Island!

$10 now man. If you think you'll go a couple times a year, an annual pass is only $50. Pays for itself in no time.

Wow.... I remember when it was $6...... $10 is still a great deal for a full car load. Considering that it costs a person around $7-$8 for any other beach. I remember squeezing in like 8 heads in my car going to Island Beach......good times.
