    Wetsuit Question

Whats it like to wear a wet suit above the rated temperatures?

I live in Southern NC (Ocracoke) about 12 minutes from my main surfspot and I absolutely hate cold weather. Like never use Air Conditioning in the summer and Crank up the Heat all winter and wear huge sweaters at work cause of the Air Conditioning.

I never really surfed religiously, only as something to do when at the beach in the summer, because I honestly couldn't imagine getting in water below 80 degrees.

However, I took a vacation to Costa Rica this spring and caught the bug. I now surf whenever I can, therefore I'm looking to getting a wetsuit for when the temps drop. I'm not wealthy so I'd like to cover as many temps as possible with one good suit for where I live. I was looking at an almanac and it seems the coldest Water I'll get here is +/- 49 F - but because of my disdain for the cold I'd probably use it the most between 55-75 F.

Anyone have suggestions or Advice on thickness or brands? Any locals that can provide input?

Bro. Punctuate and separate into paragraphs. But first, SEARCH function bro. Not another onslaught of redundant wetty treads. Just tell us where you're planning to take your next trop surf trip so we can start the millionth tread for that too bro.

1st if you are wearing a wetsuite at 75 I'm gonna call you a pu$$y! Take that thing off around mid to upper 60's and wear a 1mil top and trunks. Now as far as thickness here in southern NC I would say a 4/3. Here is why.

    1. You said you hate cold and a 4/3 will be hot in Nov, early Dec and late Feb and into March, and feel nice in the dead of winter.

    2. You said you did not have much $ to spend and a 3/2 will be too cold in Jan and early Feb so better to be hot in the warmer cold months and good in the coldest than good in the warmer and cold as hell in the worst.

    3. With all the new tech in wetsuites they are much more stretchy than beofre and a modern 4/3 will feel like the 3/2 I wore in the 90's.

4/3 attached hood for winter with 5mm mittens and booty dews for winter and 3/2 for everything else and some sexy boardies for the summer cause bit**** just wanna rip that sh** off and slurp up when you got the hottest boardie fashions on. but im in jersey and winters blow. im sure you can rock a 3/2 all year long you lucky fu*k. MAYBE BOOTIES you prob would only see 49 degrees +/- for like 2-3 months anyways. maybe buy a detachable shirt/hood piece too and you slip it under your wetsuit I used to do that until my piece shriveled up to the size you see on a Korean brah (sorry Korean bros, im among you now)

Ha sucks to be up north for winter surf! Last year I used a 3/2 with 3 or 5 mil botties and gloves in January and was okay.
