Take Cedar Key Off The Reports

Friends and I who know little about the gulf, Gps'ed Ceder key and made the 3 1/2 hour drive yesterday, based off of your forecasts for it to be GOOD. Unfortunately the beach was rocky, and unsurfable due to a 6 mile long key that is only boat accessible, and blocked all of the swell on Ceder key.....thanks for the heads up swell info I talked to every local around, and each said Cedar key didn't have surf spots......because for your weak forecast we wasted alot of time and gas and had to drive another 2 hours south to Clearwater....maybe you guys should be more informed....if you want to help people, and keep individuals satisfied and coming back to your site.

We are sorry that the forecast for Cedar Key was mis-leading for your trip. The islands surrounding the area should break, and the forecasts are based on offshore swell coming to the area.

Now that I take a closer look at the bathymetry, I realize that this may not be the most appropriate surf forecast location. The forecast locations are not intended to be specific spots, but generalized areas. But, because you are writing of your experience, I can see that this spot forecast locaiton should be taken off the list.

I joined just because of the above comment. First how could you come here and blame Swell Info for your expierence. You do understand it's just an estimate of an area, they don't go out and check every spot. I figured all people know to take these reports with a grain of salt, maybe YOU should be more informed. Why don't you try Magic S*****d, see how that pans out for you. And the logical thing to do would be to go to those surronding islands that are blocking the swell not drive two hours, just a thought, especially since the whole coast has been on fire. A simple "hey you should take cedar key off the reports, it doesn't get surf" would have been fine. Keep up the good work Swell Info,

Calm down EMT, your getting your panties in a wade, and might have to resuscitate yourself. I've been on this site for a LONG time and have always enjoyed how well it works, i was slightly irritated at the time, and was actually getting back on, specifically, to apologize to the admin, but i knew there would be someone on here feeling the need to defend him, he's a big boy, he can handle himself. i know it's been firing in the gulf, I've been surfing Clearwater and having a blast(thanks to swellinfo).As far as thinking LOGICALLY, thanks for the hint on going out to the islands(keys, as they are referred to)tried it, they were completely covered in oyster shells and are only boat accessible, if your unable to comprehend why i was a bit upset,initially, I understand, because it was no business that concerned you, in any case.

P.S. don't bring that attitude to the east coast of FL, it won't go over so well here.

Ya dude, I was heading to the Gulf for the first time as well and I almost took a 100 mile detour to check out Cedar Key. Luckily I called a motel there and asked about the surf and surfers to which I heard the sound of crickets...Made it to Brendanton Beach, good surf but the tides up now, early morning and dusk seem to be the best times...Lot of surfers here so it is surprising there is no forecast

Why add Anna Maria to the forecast? Is it really needed because it's not that hard to figure out for yourself.If you see what st.pete and Venice is doing you should be able to put two and two together.I guess now a days everyone needs to be told when and where to surf.

If you're new to an area and just heading in for a swell then you probably don't know the differences between different beaches. If there is no forecast than you probably wouldn't even think to check the spot out until it's heard off word of mouth. I noticed a difference in the swell between St Pete and Anna, it seemed the latter handled it a lot better...A forecast might have saved me some gas money don't you think?
