I haven't actually surfed much in NY or Northern NJ but want branch out for late fall/early winter DP's and weekend sessions in LI or Sandy Hook, NJ to cut down on travel time. If there are an NYC dawn patrol crews lurking on these boards send me a note.
Best thing you can do, instead of going to surf one weekend, take a trip along the breaks of Long Island, or the coast of NJ. You'll find what breaks are firing on that swell and gauge accordingly. I know in Monmouth County, there are enough breaks that will fire... when its almost any swell with a good size to it.
I'm a full time student now and I also work at BestBuy (which is a horrible corporation who only wants to take your money) and during the summer I work at K-Coast. I also try and do photography on the side, but you really don't make to much with that.

This made me laugh. How many of those stupid bestbuy insurance plans are you forced to sell? haha.
Don't worry, once you get out of school you'll work for a company that will want money from tax payers (gov't contractors), shmucks (attorney office, car dealerships), insurance companies (hospitals, gas stations), yourself and your community (teachers, police, etc.). gotta love economics....
Dude you have no idea... It kills me on the inside having to sell all these BS services to customers who know nothing about computers. We have to hit certain numbers and stuff or they come over and sit you down and tell you have your hurting the company as a whole and blah blah blah. Using scare tactics and pressuring people to close a sale which we don't even make commission on is just not a fun time for either party involved. I'm going to school for business admin. and I hope in my career I don't work for a company like that.
Graduated from college and made an attempt at being a teacher for 2years with no luck, then moved and started running a lacrosse store in PA. Dont have to open til noon so you will catch me in for dawn patrol atleast one day a week through the winters...
Finishing up my last year of school and will get commissioned as an officer in the Marines in May. With major bases in S.NC and CA my surf prospects look decent. On the other hand, I hear the surf in Iraq isnt all that great......
Currently the Director of Planning and Zoning for a small town near the beach. Always lived and worked within 20 minutes of surf. After work, sometimes before, every weekend year 'round.
No other hobbies to interfere with surfing. Pick your favorite thing to do and dedicate your spare time to enjoying it all you can. Some people have too many interests and never get to fully enjoy any of them.
I am, however, expecting a major change of career once this Publishers Clearing House thing works out for me!
