the reason eps foam inside epoxy boards looks cheap is because the foam is less dense with more air pockets, this is what creates the flex and light-ness of the board. It does not matter what kind of board you get, if it is epoxy it is going to have that same kind of foam in it.
All boards break.....case closed.
I have a firewire and love it.
I personally would go with just about anything other then a firewire. Ive heard almost nothing but bad. They ride great but once broken and close to impossible to fix.Ive heard a few stories where firewire would only resell a board for half price if you broke yours. Well with the money you spent on the 2 boards you could of got 3 of almost any other brand...
First off....A Firewire has the most unique feel in it's flex. The best board I have ever rode. Firewires are not for everyone. I think you need to be a advanced surfer to even notice the difference in the flex. With that being said.....My board has held up greatly. Not even 1 toe/heel pressure ding...tough as nails. But...can it be break? Yes...and if it does I'll get it replaced for free...Yes they have crap foam inside....My Firewire is a 5'6" Fish...so I don't think it will break......ever! Couldn't be happier with it. As far as them giving you ½ off on a new board....where did you hear that from? Is it a first generation Firewire?...when they first came out I heard they had some problems / defects....maybe you got one of those?
You need to contact them back by phone. If it's an old one they will be able to check by the board number. I'm dead serious when I say they were replaced for free....just shipping charges were applied. When did it break? Maybe it's got something to do with the Firewire / Lost deal? I dunno dude...Tell them it was defective....Firewires shouldn't just snap in half.....i know people that broke them this July and they got brand new boards for free.
FYI - Alot of Firewire have been sitting on the shelves cause there so damn expensive. Maybe you bought first generation that's been sitting.

Well im a pretty advanced surfer but, Ive never road a firewire so i couldnt tell you about their flex. They do infact seem very tough and undingable but do snap pretty easy. As someone who does ding repairs ive had a few firewires come my way completely snapped. They called the company and the company said they would not replace the board free. Only sell them the same board 1/2 off. So im only going by what ive heard and what ive seen.
