Waves on the way, what suit are you using?

i surf a 3/2 with 5ml hood & lobster claws and 3ml boots through the dead of winter...

right now still is trunks and a sleeveless vest

I've done that at least two winters of Delaware / MD surfing when the water never got below 45 and the weather wasn't brutal cold when there were waves. The hood was attached to a hotskin vest. It was totally doable FOR THOSE WINTERS. NOT for others. Its mostly about quality equipment...the 3/2 has to be decent with sealed seams, tight openings and fit properly..and attitude...and making the drops.

im gonna call BS on you. if you live up north than you would defiently need at least a 4/3 or up. but if you only surf until the wter gets to like 56 or there with no offshore wind then okay but after that you would be bsing all of us.

NO BS. usually i don't wear a hood until real late, i don't know if it is because i am part canadian or diabetic, but i deal with the cold well

if you really need that thick of a wet suit you are probably a starved ethiopian. its still trunkable out. and at worst all you need a is a spring suit.

KB4L trunked it yesterday, of course he is 5'7" 260 with skin thicker than a fur seal. His epidermis alone is 7 mil. I mean are you wearing long johns under ski bibs when the air is in the upper 60's? In that case a 5 mil should suffice, but may I suggest 5 mil boots, lobster gloves and boots? Also, drive to the beach suited up while drinking hot coffee and leave your mom's minivan running with the heat on.

I wore a 4/3 one early morning session last week with offshores and was comfortable. Wore it monday mid-day and had to leave the back unzipped to let cooler water in becasue it was blazing hot. If the air temp is like it is today i will be back in the shorts and 2 mil top. And I definitely have used my 4/3, 5 mil gloves, 3 mil boots, and hood from dec-april the past 2 years with no problems. I probably only get out 10 times or so in the winter though. Our winters have been pretty mild in delmarva the past few years, lets hope for another.

for three winters straight i wore a oniel 4.3 w/3 mil xcel gloves and 5 xcel mil boots. no jokes. and i surf alot. my sessions last longer then anyones, except jordy. of course if i am not surfing i m paddling alot also-i never stop. buuuuuut...the last three winters have been very warm for the midatlantic. anyways, trunked it yesterday again. this weekend will be a short sleeve full, but hoping for a shorty.
